This picture might seem a little shocking or perhaps a bit exaggerated to those that don't understand the reality of diabetes. This is how the majority of us "D Parents" imagine diabetes trying to sneak up on our kids, especially at night time. Night time is always the scariest time that one can imagine. It doesn't show on the outside, but on the inside I'm scared to death of what is going on. I've learned to let go a little bit on the constant overnight testing but still probably not as much as his endo and others would recommend. Last week Medtronic released what I'm referring to as the HOLY GRAIL for D parents, short of a cure that is. You can read more about this amazing product called the mySentry This seems like a wonderful device that will help a lot of D parents, T1 kids, and PWD all around. Unfortunately it is not covered by any insurance right now and comes with a hefty pricetag of $3K but they are offering it at a discount of $2400 right now. While this is a step in the right direction it's definitely not a cure. So the beast that is seen in the image above is still in our lives daily 24/7/365. We fight back our best with the weapons we have. The mySentry is just the newest weapon we are putting into our arsenal. But the reality of diabetes is still a dark and uncertain one. It sounds scary, and it is scary, however we don't let it run our lives. Clifford still gets to do all the things the other kids do, we just have to be more aware of what's going on in his body. So until a cure is found we will keep on fighting the beast the best we can.
